How To Judge Titanium Rings

Long time ago, when your parents went to look for gold or silver rings, they either knew what they were looking for, or got an advice from their friends as to what they ought to be looking for. The quality standards for those precious metals have been around for a long time. But what do you look for in the best titanium rings?
As a short introduction,titanium rings are durable, lightweight, strong, 100% hypoallergenic, and affordable. Titanium is stronger than steel and keeps its shape better than most metals used to make rings. It is also lighter and more comfortable to wear than gold or platinum.
Many of us got a wrong concept about titanium. When you hear about titanium, you have to remember that it is not about the carat like gold or percentage of purity like silver. And while titanium rings have diamonds on it, you cannot judge them by the stone being attached.
So, how could you judge the quality of a titanium ring? What should you be looking for, and what should you be looking out for?
Unlike diamonds, color is not an indicator of titanium's value. In its natural form, titanium is an off-white or bright gray-colored metal, but titanium rings are available in many different colors, including blue, black and gold. These different shades of titanium rings do not indicate a higher or lower quality of metal, however. They are simply cosmetic differences in the appearance of the ring.
Unlike silver, the percentage of purity is not a consideration in your titanium jewelry. Most titanium rings will be 99% pure titanium or higher, so anything advertised as lower than that should be viewed as suspect, as it may not be a true titanium. Titanium rings does not require any sort of coating or protective plating, so any retailer that offers these options may be worried about their inferior product showing signs of wear or tarnish - things that never happen to true titanium jewelry.
Another way to detect fake titanium jewelery is by the settings and sizing offered by the jeweler. Titanium is a very hard metal, meaning that certain styles of settings cannot be created. Also, this hardness means that a ring cannot be sized up or down.
The other way to test the purity of your titanium rings is to hold a magnet to it. Titanium is a paramagnetic metal, which means, in simple terms, that it is far less magnetic than cheaper steel alloys.
Weight is another good way to judge whether your titanium ring is truly made of its advertised metal. A titanium ring should be lighter than a similarly-sized counterpart made of white gold or stainless steel.
As for cost, the raw materials that go into titanium rings are comparable to a lower karat of gold. But due to the extra costs incurred in the creation of the best titanium rings, the final price will be comparable to a high quality gold ring. The difference, rather than financial, will be in durability, weight and originality.
