Hence, it can be said that the fact that the Steelers developed a major merchandising base in no time often comes as no surprise to many.
The roots of this entire thing can be traced back to the logo and the mascot of the team. The Steelers are considered to have the most sleek, attractive and yet the most simple and effective logo in the whole circuit. It comprises of the word ‘Steelers’ printed by the side of three asteroids of red, blue and yellow color, all within a circle. It has been in the use since the year 1963 and can often be found in different other avatars under different circumstances. Similarly, their mascot, which is a typical masculine figure of Irish origin named Steely McBeam, is also a hugely popular phenomenon. The mascot with its name was selected out of a fan poll on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 75th anniversary.

As far as the team’s primary merchandising base is concerned, they mainly depend on their logo and Steely McBeam, their mascot.
