Irish Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts is the most popular author in the romance genre but why did she instinctively want to write about romance? Let's look back to her upbringing.

She was born into a Catholic family. Her father was an electrician who married his third cousin - they received special dispensation from the pope to get married. Nora's father was an Irish-American, so I guess the Irish blood in Nora has given birth to many books either with a background in Ireland or characters who also have Irish blood cursing through their veins. As with many families of that era, Nora's mom was a homemaker and ruled the house and home. Her father was busy earning the money to support his family. Although divorce wasn't a Catholic word, Nora's parents were very much in love and had the necessary substance to tend their marriage, their home and their children. I believe this quality can be experienced in many of Nora's books, where love and trust are part of a true family, where a family will let you in despite your various failures. She also learnt from an early age that her mother took care of things and didn't wait for her husband to come home to solve problems. Therefore the heroines in her books also take their life in their own hands. I believe this is another reason why her books are so popular. Today is all about everyone doing their part and being responsible.

Storytelling was also part of her upbringing. She was smart enough to realize that she had a real talent for putting those words into print. Despite having written over 160 books to date, her characters do not lose their compelling traits and her plots continue to evolve. Nora Roberts is obviously extremely talented but she also brings hard work to the table on a consistent basis, often writing up to 8 hours a day. We have this quality to thank for the amazing number of books she offers to the public and continues to do so. Many people in her situation would just enjoy the bounty that her books has brought to her and never bother to write another book - thank goodness she is not like that.
