Get Ready to Begin Your Irish Genealogical Quest!
Are you ready to begin your own Irish genealogical quest? You’re not alone. Today, over 34 million people in the United States alone have Irish ancestry. It’s one of the most commonly searched nationalities in American genealogy! Irish roots are found in every part of American life, thanks largely to a huge influx of immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Not only is Ireland well-represented among the population of the United States, it can be found throughout the world. People in nearly every nation on earth have ancestry that could ultimately lead them on an Irish genealogical quest. The people of Ireland have been fanning out throughout the world since as early as the 7th century, when monks from the “Emerald Isle” set out to bring Christianity to the masses in Europe. Emigration continued at a steady pace until the 19th century, when it exploded! The infamous potato famine was happening then, and it caused 2 million Irish nationals to emigrate to nations all over the world, but particularly England, Scotland, Canada, Australia, and the United States.
If you want to identify your Irish ancestors and get to know who they were, there’s now plenty of opportunity to do so. Today, there are more records than ever that have been opened to the public, and even made available online! Lots of websites, such as the Origins Network, now make Irish genealogical records available online for a small monthly fee. You can use these websites to find such important records as birth, death, and marriage records, church registers, census records, and rosters of property owners (also known as Griffiths Valuation). These records typically go back into about the mid-19th century, but that’s just the beginning of what’s available. Keep looking, because your Irish ancestors are there!

Death of an Irish Lover $5.99 Crime runs rampant in the picturesque town of Leixleap -- and onIreland's famed River Shannon, where brazen thieves illegally harvestthe gourmet-prized eels that flourish there. But while poachingmay be something the local Eel Police division is well-equippedto handle, murder is wholly another matter. Chief Inspector Peter McGarr has been called out from Dublin to investigate a troubling double homicide. The nude body of young, pretty, and, recently married Eel Policewoman Ellen Gilday Finn has been discoveredin the bed of a hot-sheet inn -- wrapped around the equally unclothedcorpse of her much older boss, Pascal Burke. A crime of passion, perhaps, pointing to Ellen's cuckolded newly wedded husband as the perpetrator. But conflicting clues and false confessions are leading McGarrinto dangerous hidden corners where greed, corruption, IRA terror andradical, possibly deadly, environmentalism are but a few of the, dark blooms secretly nourished in the rich loam of the Irish countryside. |

The Death of an Irish Politician $6.99 Chief Inspector of Detectives Peter McGarr is the hard-nosed policeman of Bartholomew Gill's widely acclaimed series of atmospheric Irish mysteries. Now, here is the novel that started it all--the Chief Inspector's very first appearance. It was twilight on Killiney Bay when they pulled the Yank out of the water, his head split open by a violent blow. For McGarr, the case was a welcome chance to escape the gloom of Dublin. But from his first moment at the injured man's yacht club, McGarr realizes getting at the truth will require fitting together a number of jagged pieces: the world-class sailor who ran both his boat and his life aground; the beautiful woman who paid his bills; and the politician who was uncharacteristically involving himself in a homicide investigation. Suddenly, McGarr must face a malevolent plot of IRA gunrunning, betrayal, and conspiracy--all aimed at not just killing one unhappy sailor, but framing a certain Chief Inspector, and keeping him away from secrets even more dangerous than murder. Lifespan and Causes of Death in the Irish Wolfhound $175.08 The Irish Wolfhound is a breed of dog that has been gaining in popularity considerably over the past three decades, and as a result, the number of veterinary publications devoted to the topic has been rapidly increasing. This book endeavours to present the published literature on lifespan and diseases in the breed in a logical manner, thus enabling interested practitioners, as well as veterinary students, breeders and owners, to broaden their knowledge of Irish Wolfhounds as a breed with its specific disease predilections, their clinical presentation, treatment, prognosis and modes of inheritance. Additionally, the book presents original research on the genetic history of the Irish Wolfhound population since the advent of modern breeding during the mid1800s, explaining the lack of inbreeding depression found in the breed, and analyses the ancestors of hereditary diseases such as Dilated Cardioymopathy and Portosystemic Shunt. It concludes with a discussion of the ethics involved in breeding and some suggestions for future breeding practices and research projects. Author: Urfer, Silvan Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 160 Publication Date: 2009/09/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 6.00 x 0.34 inches |
