Why non ethical clothing is still allowed

These days it is fair to say that people in the UK are becoming more and more aware of where things come from, how they are produced and the impact this and our actions have on the natural environment and as such, policies, habits and behaviours are changing for the better. However, there is always room for improvement and the presence of things like eggs from battery farmed hens and meat from cloned animals in the supermarkets are just a couple of examples of how things are not changing fast enough.

Another great example of how views and behaviours have a long way still to go is the presence of non ethical clothing all over the catwalks and the high street. The problem with this is that producing ethical fashion can be more expensive, time consuming and complex and the fashion industry works at a seriously fast pace, in fact it works ahead of itself, producing Autumn / Winter collections before the Spring / Summer collections have truly hit the fashion magazines and the shop windows. But the message is certainly getting through and there are a hard core of people who will only buy from ethical fashion ranges which feature organic clothing and the like.

The issue of ethical fashion is a bit like the argument of which came first, the chicken or the egg in as much as prices of men's clothing, women's clothing and accessories can't start to be competitive and attractive to consumers until consumers start to purchase more and more of them and consumers will be reluctant to buy ethical fashion until the prices start to be in line with current expectations. So the two must somehow work together, perhaps with fashion labels offering ethical collections and introducing ethical fashion to consumers that way before rolling it out across all the collections and customers buying select pieces of ethical fashion to build up their wardrobe until they are able to bolster this with affordable ethical fashion across the board.

It is a difficult and there isn't one single answer to the question of why non ethical clothing is still allowed but the important thing is that the question is being asked and people are talking about the issues of ethics in relation to fashion which is essentially an industry based on aesthetics. It is important that this continues to be thought about by everybody and that people start to act on the principles they build up in relation to ethical clothing.
