Have An Outdoor Irish Birthday In A Marquee
An Irish celebration would never be complete without shamrocks, kilts, bagpipes and a lot of happy noise-making. However, such boisterous celebration is completely at odds with the sobriety demanded in indoor locations. Then again, one strong argument against an outdoor birthday celebration is the possibility of it being - literally - a washout.
To guard against the elements and still preserve the feeling of an outdoor ceremony, you could host your traditional Irish wedding in a large, green marquee. The marquee can be placed on a green lawn, or you could use green carpeting with shamrocks for an extra nationalistic touch. Alternatively, decorating the entire space with the highly realistic silk shamrocks seen today can enhance both the outdoorsy look and the Irish flavor.
Kilts were made to be worn outdoors, and the sound of bagpipes played live can be altogether too overwhelming for an indoor ceremony. On the other hand, these sounds blend wonderfully into the babble of chattering, laughing, carousing people in an outdoor setting. A large aluminum frame marquee, for instance, can give you a large enclosed space with a very high roof, the perfect balance between the comfort and security of being indoors, and the excitement of being outdoors.
If you plan on having a small celebration with less than 50 people, you can easily set up a small 6m X 6m marquee by yourself in your lawn, decorating the open space according to your fancy. The marquee is absolutely waterproof, though you should go for PVC rather than polythene if you want the best quality and durability.
Larger get-togethers will require more sophisticated and more expensive marquees. Pole marquees are quaintly traditional, reminding the old of their childhood, and making the young think of circuses. These can be somewhat unwieldy however, so it is really a question of attractiveness versus usability. The more practical option is an aluminum frame marquee, where the fabric is stretched over an aluminum frame, and the total covered area can go up to 45 X 120 square meters. This can also be set up next to a concrete building, or used as an annex.
Among the most versatile in size are high peak frame marquees. These look a lot like the traditional peaked marquees, but without the tall pole stretching from the peak to the centre of the enclosed space. This is done by suspending the peak pole from cables that stretch from the top to the sides of the marquee.
Marquees are traditionally places of celebration. The circus, outdoor festivals, and now birthdays... the list of events for which you can use them is endless. Especially in a land like Ireland where people like to celebrate but are scared of being rained on, the marquee can be invaluable.
