Emeralds are not as hard as diamonds, rubies or sapphires.Therefore, it is important to store them separately where they will not be subjected to scratching and chipping. If you have limited space in your jewelery box you can place your emeralds in a felt bag to protect them. If space is not a problem they should always be stored in a separate compartment away from other jewelry.

Professional treatments:

Because emeralds are treated with special oils, even with the best of care, the oils will diminish over time. This is something that can not be avoided, however, it can be remedied. Most professional jewelers offer oil treatments for emerald jewelry at very affordable prices. To keep your emerald jewelry in tip-top shape experts recommend oil treatments every four to five years.
