Milwaukee Bucks Tickets - Bucks Dealt A Big Blow In Losing Bogut
The breakout season for Andrew Bogut ended recently with a thud as the Bucks' center fell to the floor against the Phoenix Suns, breaking his hand, spraining his wrist and dislocating his elbow in the process. Though the Bucks still have a team of overachievers that are not likely to quit under the guidance of Head Coach Scott Skiles, their chances of success in the upcoming playoffs took a mighty blow when Bogut crashed to the floor. The team will now need players like Brandon Jennings and John Salmons to carry them in the playoffs if they are to be competitive in an early round series.
After some began to whisper that Andrew Bogut was a bust, mainly due to a slow development for a number one overall pick in the draft, Bogut responded with a big season in 2009-2010. Averaging 15.9 points per game, Bogut took great strides in his post play and overall scoring ability, giving the Bucks a steady interior offensive presence. But the biggest improvement was Bogut's defense. Bogut finished his season averaging 2.5 blocks per game, which is by far a career-high and was ranked second in the league behind Dwight Howard. With Bogut, the Bucks were able to build their offense and defense around him, which significantly helped the development of rookie Jennings and the transition of John Salmons, who was brought over from Chicago midway through the season.
For the immediate future, however, don't count on the Bucks simply lying down in the first round of the playoffs; <a href="http://www.stubhub.com/milwaukee-bucks-tickets/">Milwaukee Bucks tickets</a> should remain hot commodities throughout the rest of the season. Even after Bogut was lost early in the game against the Suns on April 3rd, the Bucks still defeated one of the top teams in the league with a solid group effort. Phoenix came into Milwaukee as winners of 10 straight and managed to put up just 98 points – well below their season average – without the Bucks' main defensive enforcer in Bogut.
Heading into the playoffs, backup center Kurt Thomas is a solid veteran that can still knock down jump shots and Jennings is capable of offensive outbursts that can carry a team. Salmons has been one of the surprises of the year and is averaging 20 points per game since arriving from Chicago. But Skiles is perhaps the glue that can hold the team together. Even though the Bucks were not expected to do anything in 2009-2010 due to the injury to Michael Redd, Skiles has maximized the talent on the Bucks' roster, which is something he will have to do to keep them competitive in an upcoming playoff series. The Bucks will have a little more than a week of regular season games to fine tune their defense without Bogut and still could be very dangerous for an older team like the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.
Moving forward, though, the future is still fairly bright in Milwaukee, as long as Bogut's rehab goes well. With Salmons, Jennings and Bogut, the Bucks have a very solid core of talent that they can build around, even if Michael Redd never fully recovers from another serious knee injury. As for the upcoming playoffs, the Bucks won't mind if a few teams sleep on them and assume they have no chance at success due to the Bogut injury. After all, teams have been doing it all season long.
