The Trinity Knot, also known as the Triquetra, appears all throughout Celtic history and folklore. Just taking a look at the Book of Kells reveals a whole host of amazing knotwork that represents so much rich Celtic history. The Book of Kells is thought to be the most treasured piece artwork of the Irish people and is on display at Trinity University in Dublin.

Although the Trinity design may actually have Pagan roots, it is often considered a symbol of the Holy Trinity since the Celts embraced the idea of Christianity. It wasn't until a few hundred years ago when monks began transcribing sacred texts that the history of Celtic jewelry was looked into...and it's all still quite the mystery even to this day.

However, some historians date the Trinity design back to around 600 A.D. during the Insular Art movement in Ireland when stone crosses and rune stones were adorned with the three point design.

So named from the Italian family, the Borromean family, this is another name used for Trinity rings. During the 15th Century, the Borromean family made the popular when they used it to adorn their family crest. Not only that, but this design shows up in the history of the German people, Norse (Viking) people, and Russian history as well.

Science has also used the idea of the Trinity to explain the world we live in. Scientists have associated this idea and design with things such as geometry and molecular architecture.

When it comes to the decorative uses of the Trinity ring, it is often used in the context of weddings and marriage. This is because the Trinity symbol is so often associated with the idea of eternal love and commitment. It doesn't only appear on rings either. Many times, it appears on items such as linens, bridal designs and other types of designer jewelry.

Although there are discrepancies on the exact origins of the Trinity ring design, today it is associated mostly with Celtic history. Those wishing to express their Celtic heritage wear this design, as well as all people hoping to express their eternal love to a loved one.
