Visiting the Builder of your Single Family Home before your sign a contract
When you are thinking about having a new single family home built for you it is a great idea to visit some of the previous jobs your builder has done.
This will give you the chance to see the quality of their work and finish and to see if what they are making is similar to what you want. Both of these are very important aspects to consider.
Quality and finish of work can be very hard to tell from pictures, but when you look at a home, you can easily tell the quality of the work. Check to see corners are square and trim meets tightly, look for how well doors close, lock and open.
You should also look for a custom builder who has done work similar to what you want. Every style of house has its own nuances in building them well, the little things that would never be thought of until after you have built them several times. By finding a builder who has made your type of home before you can feel better about knowing they will foresee these issues.
Visiting other projects your builder has done will also give you the chance to see how happy other owners are with the entire experience of working with your builder. Are they happy with how things went or where they a disappointed?
Be very cautions working with any builder who cannot show you work they have done and let you meet with previous clients. Having a new single family home custom built for you is a major investment in time and money, a little work in making sure you pick the right builder from the beginning will pay for itself many times over.
