Until recently, men who wanted to wear a Christian ring were limited to simple rings bearing the symbol of the cross, but today these rings come in a variety of metals and designs.  Some of the best selling Christian rings are "spinner" rings, with the cross displayed on the spinning outer band.  Others are two-toned puzzle rings, with a gold cross insert against a brushed silver background.  Crosses can also become part of the ring's design, engraved on the ring's face, or embossed in white against black stainless steel.  There are traditional crosses, Crusade crosses, Maltese crosses and Celtic Crosses in every shape, style and price range.

 

 

Cross symbols actually predate Christianity and have been found in many parts of the world in the artifacts of different cultures.  For example, the ancient Egyptians use cross-like symbol of the Ankh to represent life and regeneration; but ever since the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (c. 70 A.D.), the cross has become known as the emblem of Christianity.

 

 

While the cross is the most popular design for Christian rings, it isn't the only Christian symbol being worn today.  The "Jesus fish" is probably one of the earliest signs of Christian faith.  It was the symbol used by early Christians during Roman persecution so they could secretly recognize one another, and it is based on the occupation of Jesus' first disciples, who were fishermen. In Matthew 4:19 Jesus tells them "Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men."  In Christian rings, the fish emblem may be empty, or it may contain the letters "ICHTHUS", which is an acrostic that represents the Greek words for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, and Savior" as well as the word for fish.  Many believers wear the fish as a reminder of Christ's selfless and unconditional "agape" love.

 

 

Another growing trend is the inclusion of the cross, fish or dove symbol in wedding bands.  Couples often choose matching Christian rings instead of traditional wedding bands as a symbol of their desire to put Christ first in their marriage.  Christian wedding bands are the perfect choice for the couple who is as dedicated to their faith as they are to each other.
