Trusted Pagan Websites - A Way Of Life
Wicca is the fastest growing religion in the USA. As more and more people get tired of the weekly reminders to fear God and to not think outside of the box, they turn towards new perspectives, ones which allow an individual to think for themselves and to change with the times.
Once the world was isolated, each tribe or culture believing in what they think was right and using the laws of Nature to keep themselves in check. For those still affiliated with organized religions, free thinking is still banned.
As a result, many websites have come up, each touting a particular theology or way of life. There are many styles of pagan sites that claim to know everything about the pagan ways of life.
As we eagerly search for the TRUTH, we can only rely on our intuition to believe what is written on these sites as gospel. Which sites can you really trust when it comes to matters or our own individual spirit and inborn awareness?
For newcomers to witchcraft and Wicca, one site that is newbie friendly and informative is:http://www.askroseariadne.com/
Here one can leave questions for a real witch to answer. Children as young as 8 or 9 have left questions on the vast Universe that is magick. The site tries to train people properly in the art and science of magick as well as give proper instructions on how to use magick in a safe way to make their dreams come true.
Another site that is full of valuable information for the serious Wicca practitioner is:
http://www.llewellynencyclopedia.com/
This site has search facilities and a book store. It allows the eager practitioner to decide which books to buy and use for rituals, etc. Also, it explains many of the terms on magickal living in their articles on subjects such as Celtic religion, Chakras, Quartz Crystals, Shamanic Symbols, Astrology, Witchcraft, Voodoo, Numerology, Astral projection, Tarot, etc.
Another site that has a lot of useful information is: http://www.anisoptera.com/
This site helps you find your own path. A grimoire with information on Auras, becoming a witch, Grounding, Sabbats, Rituals, Tarot, Stones, Totem animals, and other thoughtful snippets can be found at this site.
One site that is dedicated to the deep study and practice of Paganism is
http://www.shanddaramon.com/ Here, one can read articles on various subjects and a very informative, interesting and personal article on "Why I Am A Pagan" by the owner of the website.
http://www.witchvox.com/ is an amazing site that puts a new witch in touch with others who are already practicing Wicca or interested in joining a coven. One can search by country and then town or city to meet/communicate with other witches in the area. A coven is good because we get the right training and guidance. For those who do not find a coven in their area, they can be solitary practitioners or create their own covens.

Paganism $8.95 Paganism' is an evocative word that, even today, conjures up deep-seated emotions and prejudices. Until recently, it was primarily a derogatory term used by Christians to describe the non-Christian cultures confronted and vanquished by their Churches. For some it evokes images of sacrifice and barbaric behaviour, while for others it symbolises a peace-loving, nature-worshipping spiritual relationship with the earth. This Very Short Introduction explores the meaning of paganism - through a chronological overview of the attitudes towards its practices and beliefs - from the ancient world through to the present day. Owen Davies largely looks at paganism through the eyes of the Christian world, and how, over the centuries, notions and representations of its nature were shaped by religious conflict, power struggles, colonialism, and scholarship. Despite the expansion of Christianity and Islam, Pagan cultures continue to exist around the world, whilst in the West new formations of paganism constitute one of the fastest-growing religions. Focussing on paganism in Europe, but exploring the nature of paganism globally, Davies looks at how Europeans discovered new cultures through colonial expansion, missionary work, and anthropological study. Contemporary social paganism can be a liberating and social force, and the idea of a global Pagantheology is now on the religious map. |

Paganism - Christianity - Judaism $28 Now remembered primarily as Franz Kafta's friend and literary executor, Max Brod was an accomplishered thinker and writer in his own right. In this volume, he considers the nature and differences between Judaism and Christianity, addressing some of the most perplexing questions at the heart of human existence. “One of the most famous and widely discussed books of the 1920’s, Max Brod’s Paganism—Christianity—Judaism , has at last found its way into English translation to confront a new generation of readers. Max Brod is best remembered today as the literary editor and friend of Franz Kafka. In his day, however, he was the more famous of the two by far. A major novelist, playwright, poet, essayist, and composer, he was also, as this book demonstrates, a serious thinker on the perennial questions that are at the heart of human existence. . . .Some of his judgments are open to question. Still, with all its limitations, this is a forthright and passionate proclamation of the uniqueness of Judaism. Paganism—Christianity—Judaism was an intellectual and spiritual event when it was first published and it remains a valuable document even now.” —Rabbi Jack Riemer, Hadassah   |

After Life in Roman Paganism: Lectures Delivered at Yale University on the Silliman Foundation $26 "According to a rite borrowed by the Romans from the Etruscans, a pit was dug in the centre of the city, when the latter's foundations were laid, in order to make the Inferi communicate with the upper world. First fruits and other gifts were thrown into the pit, as well as a clod of the earth of the settlers' native country. Thus they restored their broken contact with the Manes of their ancestors. -from "The Nether World" Franz Cumont was one of the preeminent classical scholars of his day, and his investigations into the history of religion had a dramatic impact upon the fields of archaeology, comparative mythology, and anthropology. This 1922 volume collects the influential series of lectures he delivered at Yale University highlighting one aspect of his groundbreaking studies of Roman paganism: the Romans' view of the afterlife. Cumont discusses the Romans' attitudes about the importance of the tomb, the distinctions they made between a "shade" and a "soul," the rules of admittance to Hades and the Elysian Fields, the supernatural journeys of the dead, the ancient roots of the Romans' beliefs and practices, and much more. With solid research behind him, Cumont's reassuring erudition righted inaccuracies about Roman religion that had lingered, particularly in the writings of Christian apologists, and this continues to be a fundamental work of Roman paganism today. Belgian archaeologist and historian FRANZ-VALERY-MARIE CUMONT (1869-1947) wrote numerous books, among them Texts and Illustrated Monuments Relating to the Mysteries of Mithra (1900), considered his masterwork." |

Contemporary Paganism $80 This book explores the legal bias in the United States against Paganism and other non-Christian religions. Despite being one of the most religiously diverse countries in the world, the U.S. legal system developed when the population was predominantly Christian. Built into the law is the tacit assumption that all religions and religious practices resemble Christianity. Using the Pagans as a case study, Barner-Barry shows how their experiences demonstrate that both the law affecting nondominant religions and the judiciary that interprets this law are significantly biased in favor of the dominant religion, Christianity. This creates legal problems, as well as problems of intolerance, for religions with significantly different practices. Special attention is given to a series of Supreme Court decisions interpreting the Freedom of Religion Clause in terms of neutrality and interpreting the Establishment Clause loosely and its impact on nondominant religions in the US. |
