Tribal Tattoos On The Arm - Unique Tattoo Flash
Since the dawn of humanity, tattooing has been a form of self-expression for some people – something that demonstrates their freedom and uniqueness. Tattoos express religious, magical, or spiritual beliefs and personal convictions. But aside from that, tattooing has also been a symbol of belongingness. Tattoos mark a person as a member or non-member of a local group. This undeniable need to belong, the most basic tribal need, gives tribal tattoos their appeal. Tribal tattoos on the arm, for example, reinforces a positive feeling about ourselves and connects us to an element of mystery in one way or another.

Some tribal cultures still create tattoos by cutting designs into the skin and rubbing the resulting wound with ink, ashes, or other agents. This healed, leaving a stained black or grey scar, having both texture and color. Meanwhile, other cultures create tattooed marks by hand-tapping the ink into the skin using sharpened sticks or animal bones. Regardless of the method, tattooing involves the placement of pigment into the skin's dermis.
The most popular tribal designs are Maori, Haida, and Polynesian designs. There is also great interest in Native American tattoo designs. The popularity of tribal tattoos lies in the meaning behind them. Many people have tattoos that represent their life, their history, their interests, or their memories.
True tribal tattooing was something that was incorporated into a broader cultural context. It was a something that was done to all the members of the tribal group. Therefore, in order to research the meanings of tribal designs, they need to be from a specific culture and will need to be researched from within the societal context in which they were worn.
Tattoos have served as rites of passage, marks of status and rank, symbols of religious and spiritual devotion. The same purpose goes for tribal tattoos on the arm.

Dark Dawn $11.65 Belfast. January 2005.   Acting Detective Sergeant John O'Neill stands over the body of a dead teenager. The corpse was discovered on the building site of a luxury development overlooking the River Lagan. Kneecapped then killed, the body bears the hallmarks of a punishment beating. But this is the new Northern Ireland - the Celtic Tiger purrs, the Troubles are over, the paramilitaries are gone. So who is the boy? Why was he killed?   O'Neill quickly realises that no one cares who the kid is - his colleagues, the politicians, the press  -  making this case one of the toughest yet. And he needs to crack this one, his first job as Principle Investigator, or he risks ending up back in uniform. Disliked by the Chief Inspector and with his current rank yet to be ratified, O'Neill is in a precarious position.   With acute insight, Matt McGuire's cracking debut exposes the hidden underbelly of the new Northern Ireland, a world of drug dealing, financial corruption and vigilante justice. |

Dictionary of Celtic Mythology $3.95 The Celts were one of the great founding civilizations of Europe and the first North European people to emerge into recorded history, producing a vibrant labyrinth of mythological tales and sagas that have influenced the literary traditions of Europe and the world. The first A-Z reference of its kind, Dictionary of Celtic Mythology is fascinating and accessible guide to the gods and goddesses, the heroes and heroines, the magical weapons, fabulous beasts, and otherworld entities that populate the myths of this rich European culture. Like A Dictionary of Irish Mythology before it, this is a who's who and what's what of the epic Celtic sagas and tales. Predated only by Greek and Latin by virtue of the fact that the Celtic languages were not written until the early Christian era, Celtic mythology is a development from a far earlier oral tradition containing voices from the dawn of European civilization. The peoples of these Celtic cultures survive today on the western seaboard of Europe--the Irish, Manx, and Scots, who make up the Goidelic- (or Gaelic) speaking branch of Celts, and the Welsh, Cornish, and Brentons, who represent the Brythonic-speaking branch. And it is in these languages that their vibrant and fascinating mythology has been recorded and appreciated throughout the world. In his introduction, Ellis discusses the roles of these six cultures, the evolution (or demise) of the languages, and the relationship between the legends, especially the Irish and Welsh, the two major Celtic cultures. From Celtic legends have come not only the stories of Cuchulainn and Fionn MacCumhail, of Deidre of the Sorrows and the capricious Grainne, but the stories of the now world-famous Arthur, and the romantic tragedy of Tristan and Iseult. An easy-to-read handbook, The Dictionary of Celtic Mythology presents a fascinating window to centuries of rich oral and written tradtion from the mists of Europe's origins. |
