The history of tattoo goes back over 5000 years, though it is not known as to when tattooing really began. The oldest tattoo was discovered in 1991 on a 5,300 year old mummy, known as Oetzi, an Iceman. The body had 57 tattoos in all, located over the various joints. Tattooing has known to have been used for different purposes, varying from culture to culture, and also, from time to time, it has significantly changed in shapes, symbols, and sizes and place to place. In almost every culture all over the world, religious and spiritual reasons become the basis for tattooing. For instance, some cultures get tattoos because they believe that it will ward off evil spirits. Procedures to remove tattoos are usually very expensive, and will even leave ugly scars on your skin.
